Monday Coffee: Let Them Drink Water

Happy Monday! We hope you've all had a fabulous weekend!  In today's Monday Coffee we lend some truly simple tips that add to the experience for your guests {they're easily overlooked}:

1. Pre-ceremony offer your guests a water station {think bottles or cups} with cucumber- or lemon-infused water. Especially during the summer months this is a must.

2. Post-ceremony be sure to serve up water with tray passed wine and beer. It's something that's quite easily forgotten but guests appreciate it! Offer your standard ice water as well as lemon-infused goblets.

3. Don't forget to offer stationary water during your dinner service. Whether this comes during wine service and staff fills goblets or you offer carafes on each table, water service is a must!

4. Late night water {and food} is a must! Make sure your venue or caterer has over sized tubs of mini Fiji or other bottled water to pass out to your guests après-dinner and when the dancing is in full swing. Don't kill the party by dehydrating and tiring out your guests! Having bottled water on hand ensures they'll celebrate with you well into the night!

Saturday Fun: French Flower Market Centerpieces

I just adore ruffled, over sized blooms that when grouped together create an eclectic, cafe-inspired look. I happened upon this image from Once Wed and it's just perfect! My favorite flower market is in Vieux Nice in Nice, France. I could just wander and smell and take in the flowers for hours. This image takes me back there.

Buy a few bunches of your favorite flowers at your local Saturday market and group blooms in galvanized buckets or pitchers. Scatter them down a crisp table cloth to create a similar look. Cheers!

Real Wedding: Wildflower Loving

When we spied this wedding sent to us from Studio 563 we got a little giddy. This wedding was a total family labor of love with handpicked details. From the photographers:

Diana & Bret were such a pleasure to work with! They married on the Tasch Farm outside of Austin, Texas. Everyone played a part to hanging the paper lanterns, to gathering fresh wildflowers from around the farm. The wedding was beautiful, under a huge Texas Oak tree right before sunset. The guests dined outside, under another Oak tree and enjoyed BBQ shrimp and homemade cornbread.

Just how amazing are these wildflower bouquets?

Sweet Touches: Paper Flowers

How lovely are these paper flowers? These came from the incredibly talented team at Momental Designs. Not only to they make for fun boutonnières, but paper bloom bouquets are stunning and will last forever and they can make a simple place card a keepsake as an adornment. This palette of blush and a pale, icy blue is so chic and so subtle, don't you think?

Would you consider using paper flowers at your wedding or party?

Fashion: Spring Kicks for the Ladies & Gents

I am loving these shoe posts - many of our blogging pals {check out a couple: Magnolia RougePostcards and Pretties} participate in Tuesday Shoesday {I've come to find it's a wide-spread deal} and it's quite fun! I was perusing Anthropologie for some comfy new spring shoes and spied these lovely sandals. Don't they just scream changing of the seasons?
Pair them with over sized sunflowers and a sundress for a more summery outdoor wedding and you have the perfect, relaxed look!

Now we can't leave the gents out! These suede Chukka boots from Nordstrom look quite comfy, don't they? Perfect for a spring evening hanging out with friends.

Monday Coffee: Spice it Up

Your wedding shouldn't just be another wedding. We encourage our couples and clients to envision creativity.Think about what you can incorporate to really make your guests say "wow" and set your wedding apart with entertainment. Start by thinking about what you and your spouse-to-be do for fun. Think about how your heritage or your favorite music can spice up the evening.

Love Caribbean travel? Bring in a steel drum band for your cocktail hour.
Have a passion for bluegrass? Bring in a unique mix for your ceremony music.
It can be the simplest addition of a flamenco guitarist or dancers that sets the tone for a memorable celebration.
Don't be afraid to mix things up. One of our fun couples brought in a whole Polynesian dance troupe and musicians for their wedding last fall. The bride was born in Hawaii and many of her guests traveled from there so it was her nod to them. The entertainment made their sit-down dinner so much unexpected.
Some guests even jumped up to take hula lessons!
A misconception is often that such entertainment can break the bank. Look to local Hawaiian clubs, a restaurant that has a regular guitarist, musician unions, or even message boards around your community. Often times you can have a group come out for just an hour or two for a great rate.

Do you have a plan for entertaining your guests? We'd love to hear it!

Oscar Party Simplicity

The highly anticipated Oscars are a week away and what better way to watch than with some sweet, bubbly drinks and gourmet caramel popcorn? Both recipes are entirely too simple and quite delicious. Enjoy!

The Oscar:
We love to add a scoop {just an over sized table spoon} of orange or raspberry sorbet to a champagne flute and top with champagne. It's refreshing and delicious and can also be eaten as a light dessert {if you go heavier on the sorbet and serve in a bistro glass}. Garnish with orange zest or other piece of fruit.

Gourmet Caramel Popcorn {recipe from All Recipes}:
Ingredients
1 cup butter | 2 cups brown sugar | 1/2 cup corn syrup | 1 teaspoon salt | 1/2 teaspoon baking soda | 1 teaspoon vanilla extract | 5 quarts popped popcorn

Directions
Preheat oven to 250 degrees F (95 degrees C). Place popcorn in a very large bowl.
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Stir in brown sugar, corn syrup and salt. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Boil without stirring 4 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in soda and vanilla. Pour in a thin stream over popcorn, stirring to coat.

Place in two large shallow baking dishes and bake in preheated oven, stirring every 15 minutes, for 1 hour. Remove from oven and let cool completely before breaking into pieces.

At Home with Aleah: Spring Planting

Happy Friday to you! Thank you for stopping by today. Spring is just around the corner and for me it means a sense of freshness. Creativity seems to bloom as the sun peeks out.

While we plant more year-round {on Valentine's Day we planted a new bougainvillea and an orchid}, I love to spruce up our planters with fresh spring blooms.
Here are a few simple ideas to inspire you this weekend:
I. Brighten up your office space or kitchen by painting terra cotta pots in a cheery tone.

I purchased these sweet terra cotta pots and painted them with a taupe water-based acrylic paint. Make sure you clean the pot with a dry rag to brush off any dust. I painted two heavy coats of paint. These are used indoors {filled with Maiden Hair Ferns} so I didn't seal the paint.

If you're using these outside be sure to do so or else your paint can crack easily. Not only does this brighten your home, but make up a whole bunch of pots to gift as thoughtful hostess {or just because} gifts for friends and neighbors.

II. For easy entertaining, line a wooden tray with cellophane and place pansies or ferns {in the containers} and fill with spongy moss.
While this isn't a permanent planting, it makes for an enchanting little garden for afternoon tea or entertaining.

How do you ring in spring? If you make your own painted pots I'd love to see a picture on our Facebook page!

Sweet Details: Fuchsia

I adore sweet details at weddings, events, at home, and when entertaining. I stumbled upon a post on Junebug Weddings with these incredibly charming save the date hankies. These could be the perfect take-home gift for afternoon tea guests, for bridesmaids, or a friend's summer birthday.

I also love this chair garland; the perfect adornment for a bride's place setting. Floral garlands are surprisingly simple to make: thread some heavy fishing line through a large knitting needle and string through the center {carefully} of large blooms. Tie off the ends and finish with a lovely velvet ribbon.

What are your favorite sweet touches?

Wedding Wishes to Steph!

We are so thrilled to wish our dear friend Steph {from Bubble Rock} an amazing wedding celebration this Friday! Jacin from Lovely Little Details put together some quotes from our dear blogging friends to wish Steph well. Cheers!

Party: A Rockin' Mod Chic Bash

You might remember us talking excitedly about a big surprise birthday bash for a family we adore and have worked with over several years. This party was a surprise 50th birthday soirée for the matriarch of the family and we were thrilled to come on board. In just under three months we created a rockin' bash that even included some surprises for the family.

We brought on the most creative A-team spanning the country and the result was a rockin' mod chic bash!
Challenge: we knew that our client wanted the Fairmont Olympic Hotel in Seattle {the Grande Dame} to be the location for this special celebration. From the floral down to the band, the stationery, and the fun surprise details {like a life-sized Frank Sinatra in the photo booth}, we took what we know and love about the birthday girl and ran with it.

Her husband and daughters put together some sweet inspiration boards, photos, and other stealth, top-secret items and we worked to create a breathtaking party that was the epitome of celebration - it was great!
She loves to "borrow" menus from restaurants all over so we displayed them for guests to peek at in the lounge, along with family photos, vintage dresses, and sentimental pieces her daughters borrowed for us.
We knew that our floral needed a mod, yet elegant tone to mimic the grand Spanish Ballroom so we created cake-shaped pillows of cranberry mums atop clear glass square vases. Inside we submerged blush orchids, berry-toned leaves, and tall ornamental grasses.
To tie in our mod feeling we brought in over sized {we mean huge!} lava lamps and a funky lounge area illuminated in pinks.
We must say that it looked pretty cool in such a historic room!

We created the most fun and sentimental curiosities table featuring photos, records, and all sorts of keepsakes for guests to gawk at. It was adorable!
Naturally, the menu reflected the best of the best in Northwest seafood. We are quite spoiled to have grown up with some of the freshest food in the world! {We often miss it! and love to indulge when we're back!}
Being big Seahawks fans, the awesome AV team brought in a tv so we could watch the Playoffs game against the New Orleans Saints while we set up. We won! Thought it was short-lived, it was incredible! Also, the guest of honor and her husband were at the game, so we were all watching and counting down when they'd be making their grand entrance.
As they got closer, the guest of honor still had absolutely no clue. Steve kept texting their daughters telling them where they were {and his wife thinking he was texting about the game!}. They opened the doors to the ballroom and that was such an unforgettable moment. Total and utter surprise! She was blown away and couldn't believe that we were flown up from Southern California and planned it!
From there the night progressed into great fun....

If you're ever in the Seattle area, you must eat at the Herbfarm. It's known for being the best in a true culinary experience with five-star gourmet food and the best dining atmosphere around. Their in-house guitarist Patricio is a little secret {though not for long!} - we've worked with him many times on our most discerning clients' events as he continually brings amazing ambiance with his tunes - from flamenco to classical to the Beatles, he plays it all and is incredible.
This was Aleah's favorite piece; a sunny, cheerful pillow of yellow blooms marking the family table.

Guests showed up in an array of 60s clothing. We specified "Mod Chic" on the invitations and saw Beatniks, Mad Men-themed attire, go-go boots, and everything in between!

We had a face painter on hand for the kids, but it turned into an adult activity. Such a great idea for events with more than a few children. Not only is it creative, but it makes for smashing photos!

Our go-to band for Seattle awesomeness {yes, awesomeness} is Chris Friel Orchestra, or CFO. These guys are just the nicest and they bring it each and every event. Having played with some of the biggest names in rock, they play all sorts of music and get everyone moving. They gave Nick a special shout-out song and played The Weight by The Band. Man, are they incredible. Every guest was up dancing!

There you have it! Thank you again to our wonderful clients for entrusting this special event with us. We love working with you all and can't wait for the next bash!
